Laura, she/her
I’ve always felt a strong connection to the natural world, especially when in water and among the trees. To this day I feel most connected to the earth and free in my body when I’m swimming and hiking. As a fat kid, teen, and young adult, however, I learned that my body was less welcome in these spaces and stopped trying to be there as much. As an adult I’ve decided that I deserve to be on the trail or in the water as much as anyone else! I am a fat woman, a person of color, and slow as heck on the trail – and that’s ok! We all deserve to be there, taking up space and connecting with nature in the bodies we have today. I’m excited and honored to be a FGH Ambassador and can’t wait to help other folks reclaim their right to exist in outdoor spaces. As a yoga teacher, I’m also pumped to include *optional* gentle accessible yoga practices on some of our hikes. The practice of yoga and mindfulness are perfect complements to hiking and being in nature!
